Basic Function:

Provide technical support and maintenance for all machinery, equipment and infrastructure within the School of Art Studio areas. Reports to designated supervisor.

Additional Basic Function – if applicable:

 PROVIDE FUNCTIONAL SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE OF VARIOUS EQUIPMENT OVER SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS SUCH AS CERAMICS, GLASS, TEXTILES, JEWELRY METALS AS WELL AS PAINTING, DRAWING, & GALLERY SERVICES.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Provides technical support and maintenance of kilns, furnaces, printmaking presses, looms, welders, saws, drill presses, sanders and sandblasters; install equipment as needed.

Diagnoses and troubleshoot technical problems and perform maintenance and repairs to tools and equipment; initiates quotes for equipment, services, replacement parts etc.; basic plumbing repairs, gas line and gas safety repair.

Develops and implement maintenance schedules for equipment and facility infrastructure; monitors the condition of outdoor workareas; performs and facilitates maintenance and upkeep when necessary.

Designs and fabricates studio infrastructure such as outfeed tables, workbenches and tool storage areas.

Receives deliveries; manages the inventories of bulk course materials, tools, equipment, compressed gases etc.; facilitates the removable of unusable equipment.

Serves as liaison between University Facilities Management; completes work orders.

Implements safety programs and procedures; serves as liaison between University health and safety departments; completes health and safety related tasks as needed.

Acts as liaison between external vendors for facility and equipment related services when necessary.

Assists in the training of student workers in the safe and effective use of tools, equipment and machinery ensuring adherence to internal operating policies and external regulations (i.e. OSHA operating standards).

Supervises, trains and directs student employees.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience in studio or facilities management.

OR

A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to five years of professional experience in studio or facilities management.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Art safety and health hazards

General maintenance processes and methods in plumbing, carpentry, and common machinery

Skill In:

Planning and directing work activities, managing time effectively and setting priorities

Resolving problems independently and making decisions

Interpersonal communications to effectively interact with University personnel and the public in person and over the telephone (e.g. to coordinate and schedule repairs and projects; to provide technical advice to others; to transmit work directives)

Written communication (e.g. to compose emails, memos, letters, reports, etc.)

Equipment and machinery set-up, maintenance and repair

Ability To:

Provide leadership and direction

Lift 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Studio art related experience.

Experience in project management.

Assessments:

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Exposed to dust, dirt, and cleaning solutions; requires moderate physical effort to include occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; requires on- and off-campus travel.

Working Schedule:

 PART-TIME, TEMPORARY. MONDAY - THURSDAY, 7:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.; HOWEVER, HOURS MAY VARY TO MEET DEPARTMENTAL NEEDS.
