Basic Function:

Enforces University parking rules and regulations; provides assistance to stranded motorists on campus. Reports to Parking Services Supervisor or other designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Enforces University parking rules and regulations; drives motor vehicle and/or walks to and within parking facilities in order to monitor vehicles and verify parking authorization; issues tickets to illegally parked vehicles and requests vehicle tows when necessary.

Provides motorist assistance to stranded vehicles (i.e., jump starts, unlocks, gas and passenger transports, tire inflations, etc.).

Collects parking fees at pay lots, operates computerized cash register, and delivers money to Office of Parking Services for safe keeping; may collect parking tickets from ticket boxes and deliver to Parking Services.

Provides information and directions to faculty, staff, students, and visitors regarding campus parking.

Directs parking and traffic for special events such as athletic events, commencement, concerts, lectures, etc; sets up barricades, cones, and related items to control traffic, reserve parking, and/or restrict access for special events.

Operates two-way radio to receive and transmit messages and instructions; maintains appropriate records and logs; may use a computer terminal to verify vehicle/ticket information.

Reports need for parking facility maintenance to include lots, signs, lighting, emergency telephones, trash removal, snow removal, need to spread salt, incidents of vandalism, etc.

Makes minor adjustments to ticket dispensers and related equipment as needed.

May survey lots to determine usage.

May train and direct student employees or employees in a lower pay grade; may participate in training new employees.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

License/Certification:

Valid Ohio driver's license with safe driving record.

Knowledge Of:

Automobile safety practices and procedures (e.g., jump starts, unlocks, gas transports, tire inflation, etc.)
Ability to perform basic mathematics (add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and calculate percentages)

Skill In:

Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public (e.g., to explain parking regulations, to provide directions, etc.)

Ability To:

Apply policies and procedures (e.g., parking regulations)
Operate computerized cash register, hand-held computerized ticket writer, and two-way radio
Classify information according to established methods
Count money and make correct change
Read (e.g., license plate numbers, parking policies), write (e.g., tickets, incident reports), and accurately follow oral, written, and graphic instructions
Apply appropriate safety practices
Demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 35 pounds
Maintain accurate records
Identify threatening or unusual conditions and take appropriate action
Operate a computer for data entry/retrieval

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Exposed to variable temperatures and weather conditions, fumes, dirt, dust, and slippery surfaces; requires moderate physical effort to include extended periods of walking and standing and frequent lifting of up to 35 pounds (e.g., to set up barricades, lift car hoods); may be confined to one area (i.e., parking booth) for extended periods of time; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings and weekends; requires on- and off-campus travel.

Working Schedule:

 Monday through Thursday, 12:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.; and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; however, schedule may vary to meet departmental needs
