Basic Function:

To assist the Dean in the overall administration of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, specifically providing direction for curriculum development, programs, and internal assessment.

Additional Basic Function – if applicable:

The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University invites applications for a tenured Associate Dean at the rank of Associate or Full Professor—a twelve-month appointment that begins with the 2023 academic year.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Oversee all aspects of the curriculum for all programs within the college and support expansion of the curriculum as appropriate.

Support programs in implementing quality assessment initiatives.

Oversee recruitment, placement and support of adjunct and NTT faculty.

Oversee the scheduling of courses for the College.

Supervise the undergraduate advising and recruitment activities.

Develop and implement standards and practices related to graduate and undergraduate student admission to the College, dismissal, grievances and judicial matters such as plagiarism.

Serve on program, college, and University committees; represent the College at appropriate University bodies, committees, councils, etc.

Perform related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will serve as the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and serve on the College Executive Committee. This position requires a collaborative visionary leader to harness the College’s potential for growth of its existing programs as well as lead in the development of new programs and initiatives.  They will be responsible for shared administrative oversight of the College’s programs, curriculum, advising, recruitment, internal and external assessment with a particular focus on graduate programs and education. They will assist with accreditation for the professional degrees, facilitate faculty research initiatives, and represent the College as an active participant on appropriate University committees.  In addition to the administrative duties, the candidate will teach in their area of expertise at 25% load. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Terminal degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, interior design, construction management or a related field. Six years relevant experience; faculty rank with or eligible for tenure.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Academic programs; strategic planning; personal computer applications *
University structure and academic programs

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents *
Supervision to provide support and guidance for faculty and staff *
Implementing projects and assessment of program initiatives

Ability To:

Provide leadership and direct others *
Outline clear goals and conceptual framework for programs *
Promote a collegial and constructive environment based on open communication, positive team building, and effective management of stakeholder relationships *

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

They must possess a terminal degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Interior Design, Construction Management, or a related field; six years relevant experience, demonstrated excellence in leadership, administration, teaching, and research. The successful candidate will have a teaching, scholarship, research / creative work record that satisfies the requirement for tenure and promotion in the College and the University to the rank sought.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
