Basic Function:

Work both on campus and in the community, specifically with the City of Kent, to design, facilitate and/or implement projects and programs in support of Kent State University’s sustainability plan and the City of Kent’s sustainability goals, and climate action and response plan.  Significant focus will be placed on program areas which support both the City and the University, including programming for Kent residents (sustainability at home for students, faculty and staff), outreach to the business and commercial sector, and collaboration with community organizations, on topics including energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable transportation, urban resiliency, natural landscapes, climate vulnerability, and climate justice. Reports to Manager, Sustainability.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Facilitate adoption, implementation and tracking of sustainability goals with city administration at city facilities and the community at-large.

Work collaboratively to identify best practices, emerging trends, and design mitigation solutions for local climate impacts.

Work with community partners on local sustainability programming/initiatives.

Increase educational programming and recommend incentives for broader adoption of alternative transportation practices, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.

Assist in identifying and applying for grant funding to support community and campus sustainability projects and programs.

Support the City’s Sustainability Commission, providing research, reports, monthly agenda planning, and follow up as needed.

May provide direct supervision to student employees and/or graduate assistants.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in sustainability, environmental science, planning or a related field.  Three years of professional experience working in sustainability, environmental protection, resource conservation, planning or a related field.  

Or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 7 years in sustainability, environmental protection, resource conservation, planning or related field.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Campus and city sustainability

Skill In:

Collaboration, communication, consensus building
Organizing information and projects
Personal computer applications

Ability To:

Facilitate groups and manage multiple priorities and projects

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Preferred work experience with a university, city, or a non-profit organization.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
