Senior Scientific Supply Technician
Provide assistance in the procurement, storage and distribution of scientific supplies and equipment for a large number of research or teaching laboratory rooms (i.e. ten or more); maintain equipment, chemical or supply inventories and related records in research or teaching laboratories; coordinate facility repair projects.

Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Provide assistance in the procurement, storage and distribution of scientific supplies and equipment for a large number of research or teaching laboratory rooms (i.e. ten or more), including the following activities:- Match order with invoices and records; and note and report discrepancies as necessary.- Calculate costs of materials from quotations and procure supplies and equipment.- Maintain and prioritize equipment service contracts.- Maintain chemical inventory for research labs.Review contracts with Kent State General Counsel office.Maintain required quantities of equipment, chemicals or materials; prepare special solutions as required; maintain related records. Provide oversight of equipment repairs and work with outside vendors.Coordinate facility repair projects; notify University Facilities Management of needed repairs or maintenance of facilities.Provide over-counter services for students and staff requiring laboratory materials. Maintain clean and orderly storeroom; rotate stock; coordinate disposal of hazardous chemicals in accordance with government and safety regulations. Maintain records of controlled substance receipt and distribution.Serve as liaison with Compliance and Risk Management and department faculty.May maintain key log and distribute keys; ensure appropriate access to laboratories according to safety requirements.May set up laboratory equipment; may perform maintenance of laboratory equipment. May drive vehicle to pick up and deliver supplies.May mix chemical solutions for scheduled laboratory experiments.May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees.Perform related duties as assigned.
Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable:
High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of post-secondary education with course work in a scientific or related discipline. A minimum of two years of experience working with laboratory and chemical supplies and equipment (or equivalent training or experience which provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities).
Microsoft Office software applications and experience with use of online computer database searching and ordering Hazardous chemical disposal in accordance with state and federal regulationsAppropriate safety practices and procedures Storeroom operations
Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g., to determine the faculty's need for equipment and solutions, to order supplies from vendors)Written communication (e.g., to assist with writing lab procedures manual)

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects and up to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent is required to travel from building to building occasionally and off campus occasionally.
