The Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics in the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Kent State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of Associate or Full Professor starting July 2023.

 

The successful candidate will be the inaugural chairperson of the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics (ISBA). Beginning in Fall 2023, the ISBA department will operate as an independent unit separate from the existing Department of Management and Information Systems, https://www.kent.edu/business/mis. In addition to the chairperson, the Department of ISBA is home to twelve tenure-track faculty and three full-time non-tenure track faculty, including three faculty members with appointment on regional campuses. The department offers the BBA degree with majors in Business Analytics and in Computer Information Systems, a MS in Business Analytics, multiple courses in the MBA programs (in-person, online and Executive MBA), and a PhD concentration in Information Systems. In addition, the college operates a Center for Information Systems. The department chair reports to the Dean, Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Develop, update, implement, and coordinate teaching, research, and service missions of the department.

Oversee budgetary, personnel, and program activities of the department; coordinate faculty promotion, tenure, and reappointment reviews and make recommendations to College Dean.

Oversee development, implementation, and revision of new and existing academic programs; oversee curriculum development; coordinate faculty workloads; develop course schedule.

Represent and promote department within the University and external community.

Oversee student advising; may advise graduate and undergraduate students.

May oversee internship, scholarship, or grant programs.

May serve as building curator.

Serve on various department, division, and University committees.

Provide leadership and oversight of a large/complex department (e.g., department with multiple units).

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in a relevant field; six years relevant experience; faculty rank as tenured associate professor or be qualified for such rank within the department.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Academic programs; budgeting; personnel matters to include faculty relations and university governance; personal computer applications

Skill In:

Written and interpersonal communication

Ability To:

Provide leadership and direction; analyze situations and develop effective solutions

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Preferred Qualifications: faculty rank as tenured full professor or be qualified for such rank within the department.

Candidates will have (i) faculty rank as a tenured, full professor or be qualified for such rank within the department and (ii) leadership experience, consistent with rank, in internal service roles where high-quality research and teaching are the focus or significant contributions to the profession.
