Basic Function:

To lead the mission and activities of the Gerald H. Read Center for International and Intercultural Education (CIIE) and the College of Education, Health and Human Services (EHHS) in its international and intercultural programming. Reports to Dean, College of Education, Health and Human Services.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Provide leadership and management of CIIE programs and operations to include budgeting, strategic visioning, ensuring compliance with domestic and international laws, and implementation of policies and procedures.

In collaboration with the Professional Advisory Board and the Kent State administration, provide leadership in developing timely strategic plans and funds to accomplish the mission of CIIE.

Aid in the writing, administration and monitoring of grant proposals and awards.

Work with Faculty Advisory Board as a communication link to and from the faculty of EHHS.

Recruit and develop structures to guide a Student Advisory Board that includes domestic and international students that provide feedback and communication links to inform CIIE programming.

Serve as a visionary leader for the Aggarwal Blackburn Visiting Scholar Program, a unique endowed program.

Oversee communication such as social media, newsletters, and web to connect with target multiple audiences for the promotion of CIIE mission and outreach.

Initiate and cultivate positive relationships with external partners for collaborations in line with the strategic plans for the Center.

Develop educational programming (i.e., Gerald H. Read Distinguished Lecture Series, Cultural Dialogues, and other programming) in support of providing a rich global learning environment for all faculty and students in EHHS.

Promote and manage study abroad and other global programs for EHHS, to include collaboration with faculty, staff, Office of Global Education, and accounting offices.

Provide support for faculty in globalizing curriculum.

Serve as a Kent State contact for International Baccalaureate (IB) initiatives.

Provide supervision to CIIE employees (i.e., classified, unclassified, and/or graduate assistants).

Serve on various university and external committees, councils, and boards.

May teach up to three 3-hour courses (or equivalent) per academic year.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable:

The Director will be a leader and catalyst to develop and conduct collaborative programs to expand international and intercultural education and understanding with other campus units, school districts, colleges, universities, government agencies, foreign embassies, and education foundations. The successful applicant will also be expected to expand outreach through appropriate seminars, webinars, distance education, and by developing relationships with other entities. Graduate level teaching might be possible, particularly in areas related to international education.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. or other terminal degree in an appropriate field. Four years of academic and/or experiential background in international education. Meet required criteria for faculty status. Must have a passport.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Intercultural and international education

Higher education administration, study abroad and visiting scholar process and risk management

Policies and laws affecting international education

Grant application and administration *

Strategic planning and budgeting

Skill In:

Verbal, written, and interpersonal intercultural communication *

Personal computer applications, web and social media, Google groups, photography

Project development and relationship building to fulfill a mission

Ability To:

Provide leadership and management

Provide visionary leadership in the fields of global and intercultural education *

Communicate mission to KSU faculty and administration as well as to those in outreach for the university *

Travel domestically and abroad *

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

International travel and overseas field experiences.

Proficiency in a second language.

Earned doctorate in an Education related discipline is preferred

Grant writing experience

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and campus to campus occasionally.
