Basic Function:

To provide assistance in conceptualizing, designing and directing the production of visual communication materials to support Institutional Advancement and promote the university among our key constituencies to secure private support. Reports to Assistant Vice President, Advancement Communications.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Design, develop and produce materials for multi-channel direct marketing campaigns (direct mail, email, social media) targeting diverse audiences such as alumni, faculty and staff, young alumni and students.

Work alongside Advancement Communications Project Managers on behalf of colleges/units (clients) across the university to ensure all alumni and donor outreach aligns with the university’s brand standards and quality control principals.

Create elements for distinctive campaigns and materials that assure cohesive branding throughout all annual giving marketing activities designed to secure private support.

Design a variety of materials including: brochures, advertisements, displays, presentations, newsletters, flyers, video graphics, reports, campaign-related materials and case statements, and digital elements for email web and social media.

Collaborate with copywriters and videographers as it relates to the output of content reflective of the University/Institutional Advancement brand, voice and style.

Serve as secondary liaison to internal and third-party designers, user experience designers, videographers, photographers, printers and mail houses to ensure timely completion of projects and brand and quality standards.

Assist in interpreting client’s goals, budget and schedule in order to develop strategic marketing outreach tools.

Execute key editorial communication pieces that visually express the tone and content best suited for key pre-determined university audiences; responsible for printed and electronic editorial and newsletter communications.

Manage assigned projects to ensure all communications materials are developed to meet set deadlines, including rearranging projects based on priorities under supervision.

Support Associate Director, Advancement Creative Services in daily interactions with printing vendors regarding print quotes, lists, file submission, proof checking, etc.

Complete files for delivery to production vendors.

Recommend alternative approaches to design and production that are most suited to align project goals and budgets.

Maintain appropriate records and files.

Ensure all materials produced from the division include consistent alignment with university / Institutional Advancement branding efforts.

May create institutional or multi-media presentation materials.

May supervise student designers and/or provide functional guidance of other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications design or other related field and two years of graphic design experience, including print production.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Integrated communications strategies *
Current graphic design software *
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite *
Graphic standards and practices *
Print buying and creating printing specifications
Marketing strategies *

Skill In:

Current design techniques on Macintosh and/or PC platforms *
Brand management *

Ability To:

Multi-task while managing multiple projects and assignments *
Set priorities and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines within budget*
Mentor students designers *

Advise clients *
Make proactive design recommendations *

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Experience in graphic design in a non-profit or advertising agency environment. Experience with digital and website design. Experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign and Photoshop in a Mac environment. Experience creating animated graphics with Adobe After Effects. Knowledge of fundraising strategies.
