Basic Function:

To assist in the development and management of assigned student programs and services; to work with faculty, staff, and current students to provide new student transition programs and aid in the retention of this population. Reports to the Associate Director, Student Success Programs.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

 

Oversee the development and implementation of transition programs and services for new students. This includes program planning and facilitation, logistics, training, and assessing effectiveness of initiatives.

Provide direct supervision of unclassified employee(s), including professional development and evaluating performance. Provide supervision of graduate assistants, and coordinate the hiring, training and supervision of student leaders/employees.

Serve as program liaison to various constituent groups relative to new student activities.

Oversee and monitor program budgets, may include sponsorship funds.

Teach the first year experience course.

Assist department leadership with the development of strategies to ensure program and departmental goals are met.

May assist with initiatives to improve persistence and retention rates for new students.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree in education, student affairs administration, counseling, or a relevant field. A minimum of 3 years experience in higher education programs to include experience working with and interacting with diverse student populations.

 

 

Knowledge Of:

High school to college educational transition process *
College student development theory and student engagement practices *
College and university organizational structures
Personal computer applications
Budgeting principles

Skill In:

Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication; including presentation skills
Assessing the effectiveness of programs

Ability To:

Work independently and effectively in collaborative groups and provide initiative/leadership as appropriate *
Work with diverse populations of students
Provide leadership and direction
Manage multiple projects, assignments, and responsibilities *
Maintain confidentiality of student information and data

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
