Basic Function:

Assist in the development and implementation of programs and services for Student Accessibility Services and assist and advise students with disabilities. Reports to Associate Director, Student Accessibility Services or designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Provide individual consultation to students to assess strategies for full inclusion, including the determination and provision of reasonable accommodations; evaluate medical, psychological and neuro-psychological documentation; provide counseling and advocacy for students with disabilities.

Assist in coordinating and implementing programs to improve retention of students with disabilities.

Support department programs and initiatives, in accordance with division and university priorities.

Conduct programs to educate the university community on disability related issues and the services provided by Student Accessibility Services (SAS).

Assist in updating publications and brochures on disability related issues, as directed by supervisor.

May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a relevant field. Two to three years of experience in working with students with disabilities.

License/Certification:

Not applicable.

Knowledge Of:

Federal and state legislation related to student with disabilities in higher education *
Working knowledge of post-secondary access issues and service provisions *
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Skill In:

Customer/student services orientation
Verbal and written and interpersonal communication *
Personal computer applications, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite *

Ability To:

Evaluate, interpret, and apply complex requirements and policies *
Work in a sensitive, high intensity position which requires daily interactions with students who may feel distressed

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Master's degree in a relevant field. Experience in determining accommodations in a higher educational environment.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off-campus occasionally.
