Basic Function:

Kent State University’s Department of Anthropology invites applications for a full-time, Tenure-track position with a specialization in brain evolution and/or cognition.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

The successful candidate will join a growing department with excellent research and educational programs. For this position, we are looking for applicants with a specialization in brain evolution and/or cognition using a broad comparative research agenda that uses nonhuman primate models to inform human evolution.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program, engage in collaborative research, direct student research, and exhibit a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D at the time of hire and postdoctoral experience is desirable. This position is available at the assistant or associate professor rank; candidates at the associate professor level are expected to have a history of successful extramural funding.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.

This search is part of an expansion of the Anthropology department and Kent State University’s newly launched brain health Research Institute (BHRI), whose mission is to improve our understanding of brain function in health, disease, and recovery. Kent State University is making significant investments in facilities, resources, and tenure-track faculty with expertise in Brain Health, including positions in Anthropology and Psychological Sciences. The BHRI, which consists of faculty and student members from many academic departments, multiple hospital partners, and area research institutes, seeks to foster collaboration, promote interdisciplinary research, and train the next generation of researchers.
