Basic Function:

Provide an integrated approach to marketing communications, including public relations, media relations, advertising, publications, graphic design and promotions. Reports to designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Develop marketing plans for university clients as part of an integrated approach to meet client needs and to align those plans with university marketing objectives.

Keep abreast of research and trends that can impact client and institutional marketing efforts.

Represent the university at social and business functions and special events related to respective clients.

Assist in the execution of client and institutional marketing plans as needed including handling media relations, producing publications, writing articles for e-Inside and the Kent State Magazine, creating and placing various advertisements, promoting events and research activities, writing video scripts, writing speeches, and other marketing communications.

Contribute skills, knowledge, and creativity as a team member on institutional marketing efforts including e-Inside, Kent State Magazine, Web, video, photography, publications, etc.

May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Employees assigned to a College may be responsible for the following duties:

Assist with the development and implementation of strategic marketing plans.

Develop, promote and advance communication and marketing efforts directed towards student recruitment and alumni relations for a designated college. 

Create graphic and text content publications and promotional materials for student recruitment, college information, events and news communications.

Design, develop, and maintain web, social media (e.g. E-news, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and print communications; update content and photos.

Assist in the production of multimedia communications including infographics, slideshows, photographs, maps, and video clips for communications and marketing initiatives.

Design, conduct, and analyze market research activities; identify specific markets and target applicable audiences.

Generate reports on web and social media traffic and email results; perform gap analysis of content and subsequent content development.

May serve on department, division, and college committees; participate in various professional, civic, community, or college organizations to further enhance visibility and marketing efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.Three to four years experience as a communications professional.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Web-based communications
Web architecture
Video editing software
Traditional, digital, and social media platforms
Graphic design principles
Email marketing software
Desktop computer applications

Skill In:

Media placement, tracking, and reporting
Written and oral communications
Consulting and client relations, including the ability to balance client services with university standards and marketing objectives
Writing various formats including press releases, magazine articles, brochure copy, speeches, scripts, and ads
Computer applications, specifically industry-specific software, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe etc.
Multitasking while managing multiple projects and assignments

Ability To:

Manage multiple projects in an efficient matter
Pay attention to detail in the planning and implementation and tracking process
Adhere to establish budgets
Meet deadlines
Keep abreast of research and trends that can impact marketing efforts

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Experience in higher education marketing.

Experience with graphic design programs/software, website design, content management systems, web maintenance and enhancements.

JOB SPECIFIC:

  • CMS, CRM, and web-based communications platforms
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Premiere)
  • Graphic design ability
  • Demonstrable knowledge of social media marketing strategies / techniques
  • Demonstrable writing skills: including grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
  • Experience with new media platforms
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Drupal
  • Digital fundraising platforms
  • Experience using Google Analytics to drive website enhancements
  • Experience working in and motivating teams
  • Experience in higher education marketing

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.

Additional Information:

 

The successful candidate is expected to have experience with multiple design platforms, especially Adobe Creative Cloud, web tools, and best practices related to PR, communications and marketing to—not only current audiences but also new audiences nationally and internationally.  They will also have a working knowledge of comprehensive digital multichannel communication strategies.  This position will utilize an entrepreneurial mindset, abilities in graphic design, and demonstrate capacity to effectively engage others to achieve results.  Collaboration with external and internal college and university entities is key. The person in this position will be charged with developing those connections and working to promote the CAED to diverse communities. Ability to work non-traditional hours on occasion is required.
