Basic Function:

Direct, manage, oversee and continue development of a comprehensive prospect management and portfolio development program to support the fundraising objectives of the Division of Institutional Advancement. Provide strategic support and prospecting analysis to members of the Institutional Advancement team. Provide analysis and direction of constituent portfolios through data analysis and by building strong functional, working relationships with frontline fundraisers. Reports to the Director, Prospect Research.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Strategize and collaborate with prospect research, strategic analytics, business intelligence and information management colleagues, as well as executive team and frontline fundraisers to support the development of high-capacity portfolios through development of dynamic, collaborative relationships.

Monitor and assess data elements critical to pipeline development and movement of prospects through the prospect pipeline while also working in collaboration with frontline fundraisers to identify barriers to movement.

Collaborate with key members of Institutional Advancement team to recommend the strategic recalibration of advancement officer portfolios to maximize performance and elevate the highest priority prospects for management including those with balance of capacity and inclination to make a philanthropic gift to Kent State University.

Administer prospect management/portfolio development systems and processes; ensure protocols are in place and comply with legal privacy requirements and ethical standards are upheld.

Provide leadership and tools to maintain a data-driven portfolio development program that ensures cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors in an organized and timely manner that facilitates a robust prospect pipeline.

Build and maintain a suite of statistical tools and data mining techniques to analyze constituencies, predict behavior and make organizational decisions by evaluating current and past program performance and project future performance.

Manage divisional prospect assignments through meetings with managers and advancement officers and monthly assignment committee meetings.

Track top prospects and communication information related to donor interests, relationships and other areas that inform fundraising strategies.

Produce regular reports as needed to track the general quality of prospect and suspect pools and portfolios.

Establish short and long term goals and priorities for the portfolio development program.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required. Five years progressively responsible experience in prospect research or research data analysis.

Knowledge Of:

Prospect management and research / research data analysis tools, techniques and best practices
Prospect assessment techniques, reporting analytics and data-driven decision making
Personal computer applications (i.e. MS Office Suite); highly advanced knowledge of analytical, spreadsheet and word processing applications including complex database programs with strong familiarity with relational databases
Advancement databases with in-depth ability to apply higher education fundraising principles to these systems

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Master’s Degree preferred in library science, information management or relevant field.
Work experience in higher education.
Experience and success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, including the strong communication skills with executive and frontline fundraisers.
Experience with leading a successful project team.
Measured success in developing complex, multi-faceted programs.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
