Senior Library Assistant

Performs moderately complex library activities (e.g., revises catalog and holdings records, performs extended bibliographic searches, etc.); assists library patrons in locating information relying primarily on information contained in card and online catalogs; may serve as a lead worker over Library Assistants. Reports to Senior Library Associate, Library Associate, or other designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Performs extended bibliographic searches; retrieves and transfers (i.e., downloads) records to local database.Revises catalog and holdings records, under supervision; adds titles to local card and online catalog records; deletes bibliographic and related records from local and international databases.Inputs minimal level cataloging and edits catalog copy, under supervision.Assists library patrons in locating information and citations from online and card catalogs; receives and processes interlibrary loan requests; searches shelves to locate material for loan to other institutions; may respond to inquiries concerning status of requests (e.g., interlibrary loan, document delivery, reserves, etc.).Posts invoices; verifies cataloging; receives and inspects shipments; issues claims; notifies vendors of non-received or damaged orders.Compiles statistics and maintains related records and reports.May function as a lead worker over Library Assistants and student or temporary employees engaged in routine library activities; may train and instruct employees on proper work procedures, assign and monitor work activities, and coordinate work flow and schedule to ensure deadlines are met, priorities are recognized, and policies/procedures are followed.Performs related duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one year of experience in library operations.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Library environment; exposed to dirt and dust; may require frequent use of video display terminal; may require light physical effort (e.g., stooping, bending, and lifting) and frequent movement from floor to floor; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings and weekends.
Flexible schedule, M-F between 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, 27 total hours per week
