Inspect, test, maintain, modify, and repair a wide variety of mobile and stationary industrial\commercial power equipment and vehicles equipped with gasoline, gaseous, and diesel engines, complex hydraulic systems, alternating and direct current devices and electronic controls in all environments (e.g., aerial platforms, tractors, AC generators, battery banks, pumps, construction equipment, saws, mowers, forklifts, utility and class 1-8 vehicles). Reports to Automotive Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Tests, maintains and repairs engines and sub-systems such as electronic and mechanical liquid and gaseous fuel systems, emissions and exhaust systems, safety lockout and electrical systems, cooling, lubrication and ignition systems etc.Tests, maintains and repairs hydraulic and sub-systems such as pumps, cylinders, valves and electronic/electrical control systems, etc.Tests, maintains and repairs ac/dc auxiliary power systems and their sub-systems such as battery banks, generators, transfer switches, UPS, electronic and electric controls, etc.Tests, maintains and repairs equipment and vehicle chassis and sub-systems such as pneumatic and hydraulic braking systems, manual, automatic and hydrostatic transmission systems, clutches, tires, steering systems, HVAC systems, lubrication systems, etc.Conducts inspections and maintenance on equipment in accordance with established departmental and/or industry procedures and schedules. Maintains detailed written and computerized records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, and requisitions. Maintains an inventory of parts, supplies, fuel, lubricants and tools.Maintains a clean, organized, safe shop environment that includes, but is not limited to, shop equipment, tools and supplies.Informs supervisor on work activities, work and equipment related needs.Assists other skilled tradespersons as required.May train and direct student employees or employees in a lower pay grade in maintenance and repair procedures; may participate in training new employees.Performs related duties as required.

Twelve to eighteen months formal training (or equivalent training or experience which provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities) and a minimum of two years experience in a variety of equipment and vehicle repairs (e.g., two and four cycle single or multiple cylinder engines, gasoline, gaseous, and diesel fuel systems, hydraulic, ac\dc electrical, and mechanical systems).
Must possess valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with proper endorsements and safe driving record, or obtain as soon as possible with extension up to 6 months from date of hire, if position requires operation of vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of Ohio Revised Code. Must possess current Type II and MVAC (Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning) certifications or acquire certifications during employee probationary period, if position requires servicing of motor coach bus and motor vehicle air-conditioning systems. Employee must provide all basic tools needed for this position. Individuals will be subject to controlled substance/alcohol testing in positions where such is required by federal regulations.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Garage, mechanical room, electrical room, and outdoor environments; exposed to dirt, grease, chemicals, electrical devices, fumes, loud noise, slippery surfaces, variable temperatures and weather conditions, potentially dangerous equipment (e.g., lifts, switches, etc.); requires considerable physical exertion to include frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds (e.g., blocks, head sets) and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds (e.g., tires), extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, or assuming awkward positions; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays; may be called in to work in emergency situations; requires on- and off-campus travel.
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; however, schedule may vary to meet departmental needs.
