Basic Function:

Manage and direct the daily operations of Mail Services and serve as the primary liaison to the United States Postal Service. Reports to the Associate Vice President for Business and Administration Services.

Opportunity to provide leadership and direct the daily operations of Kent State Mail Services
Department.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Plan and direct all department activities through a team of administrative, professional, and support staff; oversee personnel administration and professional development.

Establish department goals, objectives, and strategies with particular emphasis on continuous improvement and customer service; develop and implement programs and services to accomplish goals, improve the image of the university, and attract and retain students.

Plan, monitor, and maintain department budgets and approve operating expenses
Coordinate mail service production.

Monitor University postage usage; ensure most economical mailing methods are used; prepare and monitor contracts and / or agreements for pre-sorted first class and international mail; act as liaison between university and U.S. Postal Service.

Oversee maintenance of current equipment and the evaluation / recommendation of equipment needs.

Develop and conduct training presentations on mail services and mail handling procedures for large group settings or one-on-one as needed.

Monitor public dock area working with other departments to ensure a safe working environment.

Maintain defensive driving program for new mail services delivery personnel.

Serve on department, division, and university committees.

Fulfill responsibilities of human resource management including equal opportunity, affirmative action, and employee development.

Perform related duties as assigned.

mail services employees. Establish department goals, objectives, and strategies with particular
emphasis on continuous improvement and customer service in addition to providing vision and
direction for department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or relevant field. Two to three years relevant supervisory / management experience and two to three years experience in mail services industry.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Personal computer applications (i.e. MS Office Suite) *
Demonstrated awareness of current trends and best practices in mail services industry *
Laws and regulations pertaining to mail services (federal and state) *
Budgeting processes, procedures and standards *

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents *
Demonstrated management and supervisory skills *

Ability To:

Provide leadership and direction in the area of mail service initiatives *
Direct others (including the supervision and management of staff) and manage projects *
Develop and implement plans
Work as an effective change agent

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
