Basic Function:

Edit feature and spot news stories for air on WKSU and Reporting to include spot and feature reporting, long-term enterprise and investigative journalism, online/web and social media engagement. Reports to News Director, WKSU.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Edit stories by reporters in the WKSU newsroom to ensure credible, accurate, conversational, timely and consistent stories for broadcast.

Edit web content to ensure credible, accurate, distinct and readable stories.

Produce content-extras for the web.

Create innovative, exciting and important web features and extras to provide additional information and content to WKSU’s audience and to drive web traffic.

Field pitches and assign news coverage, including acting as News Director’s proxy in meetings and news calls.

Select and research topics; contact and interview sources, develop database-reporting research, write and edit long- and short-form stories and produce reports for air, on the web and via social media.

Expand WKSU’s profile on Twitter, Facebook, and other existing and emerging social media platforms.

Provide functional guidance to unclassified and classified staff engaged in reporting.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in broadcasting, journalism, or relevant field; three years relevant journalism experience. Must possess broadcast-quality voice. Ability to work flexible schedule, nights and weekends as needed.


Valid driver's license.

Knowledge Of:

Programming and radio broadcasting
Story editing
Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software in a PC environment
Adobe audition or other digital editors
Social media formats

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communications.
Time management and organization
Writing for web including AP Style
Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms

Ability To:

Communicate as an editor
Steer and develop long-term enterprise and investigative journalism

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Add Knowledge of public radio.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus frequently.

Working Schedule:

 Must be available to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
