Basic Function:

Provide primary care and urgent care services to faculty, staff, and students of Kent State University. Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team. Reports to Senior University Physician.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to KSU students and employees with acute and chronic primary care health issues.

Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, psychologists, mid-level providers, nurses, case managers, pharmacists, health educators, and support staff to provide patient-focused care in a supportive environment.

Provide preventive care and pre-participation screening exams for KSU students and employees.

Maintain accurate and timely medical records, using an electronic medical record.

Make appropriate referrals to University Health Services physicians or outside specialists.

Order and interpret appropriate tests, including x-rays, for the diagnosis and management of primary care conditions.

Participate in interdisciplinary case management meetings.

Participate in campus wellness initiatives, education and outreach programs, and committees as assigned.

Perform chart reviews in the context of a Peer Review process.

Function as preceptor to graduate students in the health professions.

Work collaboratively with various university departments to support student health, wellness, and academic success.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Nursing. Two to three years of experience in nursing in a primary care or urgent care setting. Must be able to work day, evening, or weekend hours as needed.

License/Certification:

Licensed Nurse Practitioner in the State of Ohio, certification in a primary care specialty, with Certificate to Prescribe or eligibility to earn Certificate to Prescribe. Current DEA certificate or eligibility to earn DEA certificate. Current CPR/AED certification.

Knowledge Of:

Current standards of care for primary health care and urgent care
Current health issues in a young adult population *
Occupational health care and worker's compensation evaluations
Current recommendations for adult preventive care
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Skill In:

Patient assessment and diagnosis *
Appropriate prescribing in accordance with the State of Ohio Board of Nursing Formulary for Advanced Practice Nurses *
Written and interpersonal communication *
Time management and prioritization of work flow in a busy clinic setting *

Ability To:

Use an electronic medical records system *
Work cooperatively with an interdisciplinary team of professionals
Work with a population that is diverse in national origin, sexual orientation, language, race, and ability
Work day, evening, or weekend hours as needed *
Provide appropriate direction to support staff in a busy clinic setting *
Prioritize scheduled appointments and walk-in patients based on acuity *

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Two years of experience as a nurse practitioner. Experience with electronic medical records, including template design; experience working with young adult or college populations.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building and off campus frequently.

Working Schedule:

 On-call/as needed/part-time term assignment.
