Basic Function:

To manage the operations of all department facilities to include general maintenance, preventative maintenance, structures, utilities, grounds, custodial services, etc. for Recreational Services. Reports to Director, Recreational Services or designated supervisor.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Manage and coordinate one or more specific functional areas (e.g. HVAC, preventative maintenance, structures, utilities, grounds, custodial services, etc.) for Recreational Services.

Manage annual shutdown; oversees and performs preventative maintenance, cleaning and repairs during designated annual shutdown.

Supervise employment, assignment, and discipline of assigned personnel; monitor work duties and responsibilities; communicate and enforce policies and procedures; address employee concerns and complaints; adjust grievances and resolve problems; may maintain employee records and authorize leaves.

Ensure appropriate training of assigned personnel; assess staff training needs; develop and implement training activities.

Assist in developing and implementing goals and strategies for functional areas and department.

Attend all staff meetings as required.

Monitor and inspect Recreational Services buildings and systems for defects, deficiencies, and problems; report and/or correct problems.

Identify and report supply needs; maintain inventory of supplies, tools, equipment, etc.; purchase as necessary.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business or relevant field of study and three years of facility management experience which has included full time staff supervisory experience. Or a combination of seven years progressively responsible experience in facility maintenance which has included full time staff supervisory experience and certifications/experience in one of these relevant areas: HVAC, grounds, carpentry, plumbing, electric, etc.


American Red Cross certification in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers required within 30 days of hire. Class and certification are available through the department.

Knowledge Of:

Personal computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software
Business and management principles relative to planning, resource allocation, and the coordination of people and resources *

Skill In:

Written and interpersonal communication *
Account reconciliation and budgeting
Development and implementation of facility budget
Adherence to deadlines *
Providing leadership and direction to others

Ability To:

Work independently and as part of a team *
Multi-task while managing multiple projects and assignments *
Read blueprints and schematics *
Make decisions quickly and effectively
Collaborate and work effectively with Office of the University Architect and other stakeholders as necessary
Respond to emergencies 24/7

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Moderate work-Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
